Ken Norton Comes Back

After losing his WBC championship to Larry Holmes in June of 1978, Ken Norton took 5 months off, and had a comeback TKO win over Randy Stephens. 4 months later he suffered a devasting knockout at the hands of slugger Earnie Shavers. That was followed with a draw against trial horse Scott LeDoux. Norton was pretty much finished, and faded from the boxing scene soon after.

However, no sport is replete with comebacks like professional boxing. It’s part of the sport and it’s fighters and always will be.

Ken announced a comeback bout with tough but limited Randall Tex` Cobb in November of 1980 in San Antonio, Texas. The veteran fought well enough to squeeze out a split decision win, and with boxing being what it is, it put his name back in talks for a shot at one of the young contenders in 1981. I for one was glad to see him back.
