- Muhammad Ali. After a forced retirement of 3 and 1/2 years because of his refusal into the Army in April 1967, Ali returns to the ring on Ocrtober26, 1970. His opponent is the top contender Jerry Quarry, who Ali stops on cuts in 3 rounds in Atlanta, Georgia.
- George Foreman. ‘Big’ George retires after losing to Jimmy Young on March 17, 1977 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After 10 years as a preacher, he comes out of retirement on March 9, 1987 to TKO Steve Zouski in 4 rounds at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.
- Sugar Ray Leonard. Ray Leonard retires after retina surgery in 1982, then again after struggling with Kevin Howard in May of 1984. Against all odds, he returns 3 years later and shocks the world with his split decision victory over the heavily favored Marvin Hagler at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas
- Roberto Duran. On November 25, 1980, Duran disgraces himself and his home country of Panama by quitting against Sugar Ray Leonard in the 8th round. He returns after a brief retirement to win the junior middleweight title against Davey Moore on June 16, 1983, then adds a 4th title by upsetting Iran Barkley on February 24, 1989.
- Larry Holmes. After losing in his first comeback attempt to Mike Tyson on January 22, 1988 in Atlantic City, Larry Holmes retires from the ring. Three years later, he returns on April 7, 1991, and stops Tim Anderson in one round. 4 wins later, he upsets the undefeated Ray Mercer on February 7, 1992. That win earns him a title shot against Evander Holyfield four months later that he loses, yet gets another shot at a crown when he faces WBC champ Oliver McCall on April 8, 1995 in Las Vegas.
