My List of Boxing’s 10 Worst Stoppages

 This is my List of Boxing’s 10 Worst Stoppages

1. Meldrick Taylor vs. Julio Cesar Chavez 1. March 17, 1990. Richard Steele stops the fight with 2 seconds left in round 12, and Taylor able to continue.

2. Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson 2. June 28, 1997. Tyson bites both of Holyfield’s ears in the third round, forcing a disqualification.

3. Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston 2. May 25, 1965. Sonny Liston takes a dive in the first round, giving Ali a KO win.

4. Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Roberto Duran 2. November 25, 1980. Duran quits in the 8th round, and blames it on stomach cramps. Leonard wins by TKO.

5. Emile Griffith vs. Benny Paret 3. March 24, 1962. Referee Ruby Goldstein allows Griffith to pummel Paret, causing him to die from the blows.

6. Ray Mercer vs. Tommy Morrison. October 18, 1991. Ray Mercer hammers Tommy Morrison with unnecessary punches, as referee Tony Perez looks on.

7. Michael Dokes vs Mike Weaver. December 10, 1982. Referee Joey Curtis stops the fight at 1:03 in round 1, when Weaver was not hurt after being knocked down.

8. Mike Tyson vs. Razor Ruddock 1. March 18, 1991. Fight is stopped in round 7 by Richard Steele. Ruddock had been knocked down, but was fine and able to go on.

9. Gerry Cooney vs. Ken Norton. May 11, 1981. Norton is cornered, as referee Tony Perez allows Cooney to land an avalanche of punches to Norton’s head.

10. Jack Johnson vs. Jess Willard. April 5, 1915. Jack Johnson throws the fight in the 26th round, and gives up his title.
