ROCKY III

By the time Rocky 3 was released in May 28th, 1982, boxing was a huge part of my life. Unlike the first two pictures, when I was anything but. The original movie, released in late 1976, I found depressing, and when I saw it in early 1977, I was more interested in baseball. When Rocky 2 came out in June of 1979, I was a fledging fan and in school at the time, and never even saw it in a movie theatre.

May 28th, 1982 was a Friday and my 22nd birthday to boot. I went to see it in an old fashioned 500 seat movie theatre, which they had decorated with posters and boxing pictures everywhere, to give the place the feel that you were going to a live fight.

I went with my mother and 2 younger sisters, and it was a blast. The place was packed with young people, and I loved every minute of it. The place burst with applause during action scenes, and it was the best movie I had seen my entire life. So much so that I saw it 11 times at the same theatre that summer. In my heart when someone asks, it’s still my favorite all time motion picture.
