When Rocky V opened on November 16, 1990, boxing was at that point a huge part of my life. I remember seeing it the opening weekend at a local movie theatre, and was kind of disappointed in it. It starred young heavyweight Tommy Morrison as Tommy Gunn, a young protege that Rocky takes under his wing to train and manage. Rocky finds out he has suffered brain damage and can no longer fight, and has lost most of his money because of bad business dealings his cousin Paulie had made.
There were parts I found enjoyable, but the ending was comical. For someone who has brain damage, Rocky engages in a brutal street fight with Gunn, who has betrayed him and signed with a dirty promoter. I tried to accentuate the positive in the movie, and did see it a few more times. At least it was a boxing movie, and only Stallone did those.
