Sonny the Champ

Floyd Patterson was heavyweight champion of the world in 1962. He was a good fighter but no one really gave him much of a chance against the brutish Sonny Liston. His own trainer Cus D’Amato did not want him to fight Liston, but Floyd insisted on the  fight. It took place on September 25th of that year in Comiskey Park in Chicago. The fight was brutal and short. A left hook by Sonny after a series of body shots knocked Patterson out, and there was a new heavyweight champion of the world. The 2 fought again the following July, and it was a carbon copy of the first bout. Liston was too strong, hit too hard and the first round KO would be his last shot at the title of his career. The champ with the killer stare and no known age had a bright future to say the least.
