Steve Albert

Steve Albert was born Stephen Aufrichtig on April 26, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York. He was one of many brothers who were sportscasters, and all became famous in their roles. He served as a broadcaster for many NBA basketball teams, and also for several NHL hockey franchises as well.

Steve became the lead man for the Showtime boxing team, and remained so for 24 years until 2011. His best shows were with Dr. Ferdie Pacheco, and Bobby Czyz as his partners. The trio called many big fights, with Mike Tyson’s career being the focus of many of Showtime’s biggest cards.

Showtime and HBO were rival companies for many years, and both saw the downfall of professional boxing. Thus, with the lack of top boxers and public support, they stopped carrying the sport. While he did call fights, Steve was one of the best to ever to do it, with his smooth voice, and easy going personality making him popular.

He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2018. A boxing legend, Steve Albert.
